Drinking Water Advisory Information

Commonly Asked Questions following a Boil Water Notice

A Boil Water Advisory could be issued due to a loss of water pressure in the distribution system causing potentially harmful bacterial to contaminate the water supply.  A loss in water pressure is most often caused by a loss in power (electricity) to the pumping facilities.  It can also be caused by a break in a water mainline.  Breaks in water mainline are generally caused by someone digging without first getting a locate for the water lines.  Call Before You Dig

During a "Boil Water" event, Long Butte Water System will be going through the process of confirming that the water is free of contaminants through laboratory testing. Until the quality is confirmed, please be aware that contaminated water could make you sick, customers should assume the water is unsafe and take precautions. Do not drink the water without boiling it first.

HOW TO BOIL Customers should bring water to a rolling boil for 1 full minute, allow the water to cool before using, and store the cooled water in a clean container with a cover.

WHEN TO BOIL Customers should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for: Drinking • Brushing teeth • Washing fruits and vegetables • Preparing food and baby formula • Making ice • Cleaning food contact surfaces

We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water. We would anticipate resolving any problems within 24-36 hours. The water is safe for handwashing.
